$10 for non-AABA members.  You can RSVP online at www.aabahouston.com or to AABA VP of Programs Judy Liu at judy.liu [at] centerpointenergy.com

Saturday, April 18th: The University of Houston Law Center, the AABA, and other local organizations will be hosting an immigration workshop at which local immigration lawyers (including AABA member Kellie Pai) will teach classes on various aspects of the immigration and naturalization process for interested members of the community. Volunteers from the AABA are needed to help with registration and direct attendees to their classes. The event will be held from 8 am – 12 pm at Krost Hall. Volunteers should arrive by 7:45 am. You are welcome to stay as long as you’re able. Please contact AABA VP of Community Relations Alison Chen (alisonchen@andrewskurth.com) if you’re interested in volunteering.

Wednesday, April 22nd: The AABA will be hosting the first installment of its Breakfast With General Counsel Series from 8 am – 9 am at the Junior League of Houston (1811 Briar Oaks Lane). The keynote speaker will be Cyndi J. Baily, Senior VP and General Counsel of Baylor College of Medicine. Breakfast will be provided. Admission is free for AABA members, and $10 for non-AABA members. Sunday, April 26th: Come join us for the AABA’s first family day event of the year! We will be gathering from 1 pm – 4 pm at the pavilion at Colonial Park in West University (4130 Byron). There will be a bouncy, facepainting, and games for the kids. Everyone, of course, is invited – kids or no kids. It’ll be a nice opportunity for folks to just hang out and enjoy each other’s company in a relaxed setting. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Attendance is free for AABA members and their families, and $10 for non-AABA members. All children attend free. RSVP online at www.aabahouston.com or to AABA Social Committee Co-Chair Cindy Lin (clin@curtis.com).

Rockets Game!

We are going to see the Houston Rockets play the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday, March 14th, 2009 at 7:30.

For any ALSA members, the tickets will be free (face value of $45 dollars; don’t ask me how we did it, I don’t know). We will be seated upper-level, but close to the front row and courtside.

In addition, you may bring one guest for a 1/2 price ticket (although we reserve the right to potentially change this based on numbers of interested attendees).

Please let us know if you would like to join us for a fun night by Friday March 6th at Noon. This is a pretty hard deadline because we need to get numbers and purchase tickets. E-mail Jason Wu at jcwu2@central.uh.edu Thanks and hope to see some of you there.

Message from AABA about mentorship

Dear Friends and Colleagues, Just a friendly reminder that the deadline for applying to be a mentor or mentee in the AABA’s annual mentorship program is next Wednesday, February 18th – less than one week away. I strongly encourage both our attorney and law students alike to participate in this rewarding program. It’s an excellent opportunity for law students to meet and learn from practicing attorneys and for practicing attorneys to share their valuable experiences with the next generation of attorneys. Attached are application forms, which take just a minute to complete and can be emailed to AABA Mentorship and Law School Relations Committee Co-Chairs David Hsu (david [a] davidhsulaw.com) and William Ramey (wramey[a] winstead.com)

- the attachements weren’t actually included, so please use the email for more information (I received the application form in a seperate email.  Let me know if you need one)
